What you need to know
It is Open Season 2024.10.09 - 2024.10.15
- You may fish with normal rods in dam 1, 2 and 5.
- Please DO NOT RELEASE any trout caught.
- No night fishing in the trout dams.
- You may buy the trout you catch Or you can hand it in and not buy it.
- Please give the trout caught to the Wonderland45 worker, as soon as you caught it, and say if you are buying or just handing it in.
- He will ask for your TAG number you received at the gate, if you are buying your trout
- The price for trout is R128/kg.
- You may buy frozen, cleaned trout at the Reception as well, if available.
Our fishing locations offer a diverse range of fish, including, Bass (Baars), Catfish (Baber), Carp (Karp), Tilapia (Kurper) and Trout (Forel).
Winter
As soon as the water temperature reaches 22°C, we stock the dams with trout. Depending on Mother Nature this season is normally from April to October.
We try to get different species of trout every year. We have been fortunate to stocked Rainbow, Golden, Brown, and Red trout in the past.
Summer
As soon as the water temperature reaches 25°C, we stock the dams with red-breasted and blue tilapia. Depending on Mother Nature this season is from November to March.
Carp – is available all year round
Bass – as soon as their spawning season is over, they start biting.
Catfish – as soon as the water conditions are right and they wake from their lazy winter slumber, they start biting.
If you’re planning a fishing trip at Wonderland45, it’s important to know the rules for each species you plan to catch.
Here are the guidelines for Carp, Bass, Catfish, Tilapia, and Trout:
Carp, Bass, and Catfish:
- These species are strictly catch and release.
- If the fish is injured, bleeding, dying, or die when caught, it must be taken to the fish station for cleaning, and you will be responsible for the cost.
Trout:
- Catch and release is allowed when caught with a fly-fishing rod and fly (NO bait allowed with a fly).
- Catch and buy is allowed in dams indicated during the season.
- If the fish is injured, bleeding, dying, or die when caught, it must be taken to the fish station for cleaning, and you will be responsible for the cost.
Tilapia:
- Catch and release is allowed in Dam 2, 4, and 5.
- If the fish is injured, bleeding, dying, or die when caught, it must be taken to the fish station for cleaning, and you will be responsible for the cost.
